How to slow down the ageing process

Can the ageing process really be slowed down? Is science about to make massive breakthroughs through the rapid acceleration in the understanding of the human body?

We may not be far away!

Ageing can be described as a loss of genetic information, the very code that forms our DNA. It is suggested that there are two types of information in the body, analogue and digital.

Analogue is referred to as Epigenome. The information is heritable and transmitted genetically. Whilst digital works just like a digital value, therefore can be copied in a like for like fashion. Amazed yet?

To understand ageing we must first understand what the scientific hallmarks of ageing and diseases. Currently scientist are in consensus that some of the suggestions below may be one of the keys to slowing down the ageing process.

9 Ways to slow Down Ageing

In David A. Sinclair and Mathhew D. LaPlante's book Life Span, they suggest the following:

    1. Genomic instability cause by DNA damage
    2. Attrition of the protective chromosomal endcaps, and telomers
    3. Alterations to the epigenome that controls which genes are tuned on and off
    4. Loss of healthy protein maintenance, known as Proteostasis
    5. Deregulated nutrient sensing caused by metabolic changes
    6. Mitochondrial dysfunction
    7. Accumulation of senescent zombielike cells that inflame health cells
    8. Exhaustion of stem cells
    9. Altered intercellular communication and the production of inflammatory molecules

One of the above may possibly slow down the ageing process. There’s also talk of addressing all nine and the possibility that we may not age at all.

    Theories of ageing

The inherited primordial survival circuits are the starting point of the current theories around ageing. These are the survival circuits embedded from our very distant ancestors.

This is where our biohacking journey starts. Over the coming weeks we will break down how we can slow the ageing process.
