The Problem

Counting and measuring, stressing and worrying. In the past decade, the craziness of a giant industry has influenced millions across the world as the health and fitness industry has expanded rapidly. The whole market is crazy at best.

Everyone has an opinion. It only takes a random bro science conversation or maybe the not so knowing Herbal life sales rep has put something out there to manifest and take you away from your goal and objective.

Calorie this, calorie that,! What do Calories really mean anyway for aesthetics,  for performance, and what about overall health and longevity.

What is a Calorie

Let's start, by understanding what a Calorie is.

A calorie is simply a unit. A single unit that is used to measure the total amount of energy needed to increase the temperature of one kilo of water by one degree Celsius, yep, that what all the fuss is about. All the label reading, the marketing campaigns, the mind viruses and a boat load of time have been spent on a unit of measurement.

Why I Should Never Stress About Calories or Should I

Should I count Calories? Well, that all depends on the goal or objective. However, NEVER count calories if stress decides to raise it's ugly head but let's start from the bottom up first.

    Firstly, what's the goal?

Body composition, aesthetics, in general physique based goals are generally speaking a calorie deficit or surplus requirement. However, food in food out, isn't the whole story.

    Factors to consider

Life isn't so simple, and neither is the algorithm to body composition, performance, health and longevity. Consider the following and explore how each may have hindered or accelerated progress to meet objectives.

    • Stress

    • Environment

    • Foods and liquids consumed

    • Timing of intake

    • Activity levels / Energy Expenditure (EE)

    • Metabolic flexibility

    • Body function

    • Sleep

    • Organ energy consumption

    • Metabolic rate (RMR)

    • Testosterone and Estrogen levels

    • Hormone management

What more is there are many other factors to consider! Calorie counting just got more crazy to count just by taking into account the influences above.

    Calorie Counting Balance

All the above feed into the algorithm in attaining specific measurable targets in body composition and performance. The nutrition can of worms has officially been opened, and what's more scientists are still trying to work it out.

The goal must be defined to start to breakdown the inputs required to achieve a desired result. How is done? Balance...

Objectives can be met by meeting the minimum effective balance between health, performance and composition of the body. For every defined result is a different balance between the three components, all by which are influenced by the inputs and outputs of diet, life style, environments, Genomes and bodily function.
